Thomas and I love to travel. In fact, nobody should be surprised if we end up selling our house and purchasing an RV before we’re 40. We are “roadies”…but not the kind that follow some weird band, thank goodness!
Last fall our photographic adventures took us to Celina, TX for Ms. Katie’s wedding. This is going to sound completely nuts, but the only way I can describe this place is Mayberry meets the Wizard of Oz! The town is absolutely precious…an old abandoned ice house beside a train track, a weathered Coca-Cola ad painted on the side of the building, quaint antique shops wall-to-wall…just the quintessential picture of downtown USA. To get here, you literally have to drive to the middle of nowhere past miles and miles of fields as far as the eye can see. It’s kinda like driving through Kansas, Toto! Just outside town, Katie’s family grows some AMAZING sunflower crops…and not just those dinky yellow buds that grow wild along the roadside…I’m talking massive, bigger-than-your face, serious sunflowers. I actually felt like a munchkin in the land of Oz but without the yellow brick road! Hahaha! (Yes, Thomas took pictures of me with these gorgeous flowers, too! I just couldn’t bring myself to share, though! LOL!)
If you ever find yourself northwest of McKinney, you have stop and enjoy Celina. It will seriously make you want to pack up and relocate…or buy an RV. 🙂 Here’s one of Celina’s beauties, Ms. Katie:
